University High Cross Country teams dominate in first Home Meet in Washington Park ! Both the University High Boys and Girls cross country teams placed first in the opening cross country meet of this year, 2008. The races commenced on the North side of Washington Park on Tuesday afternoon Sept. 16 at 4:30 PM. Many other schools competed including Chicago Hope, Urban Prep, Faith Lutheran, George Washington, Elgin Academy, Jones College Prep, Sacred Heart, North Shore Country and Parker. The U High Boys cross country team prevailed with an average time of 16:48:40 for the 2.9 mile course. Parker came in second in the Boys competition with an average time of 17:45:60 and Chicago Hope came in third with an average time of 18:05:20. The UHigh Girls team won going away with an average time of 19:38:00. Jones College Prep girls came in a distant second with an average time of 23:49:60 and North Shore Country Girls came in third with an average time of 25:16:80 for the 2.9 mile course. UHigh Girls cross country team members who placed in the top ten included Aoife MacMahon, Sherry Fu, Emily Kuo, Julia Bard, Josey Mintel and Alexandra Chang. UHigh Boys cross country team members who placed in the top ten included Robert Meyer, Ben Bucheim-Jurisson, Aaron Buikema, Thomas Aquino and Donald Traubert.
Next Meet is Illiana Christian Invitational on Sat. Sept. 20th. 9am in Lansing, Illinois at the North Creek Meadow Forest Preserve.
