Boys Baseball The #15 seed Maroons defeated the #5 seed Payton College Prep this evening 16-8 at the "minor league quality" Brooks College Prep baseball diamond. Senior Mike Casey was the winning pitcher, with 2 innings of relief from Junior Mark Woerner. Morgan Murphy cracked a bases loaded triple in the 5th, Mike Casey ripped a double off the left field wall and Tim Parsons was on base all 5 times he batted. The Maroons advance to the 3A Sectional Championship game against the number one seed Jones College Prep on Saturday starting at 4:00 PM at Brooks College Prep, 250 East 111th St. 60628 (the old Mendel Catholic Prep Campus).
Boys Tennis Tyler Anderson knew he had his hands full in the State Finals when he drew one of the 5-8 seeds for his very first match, Hinsdale Central’s Krishna Ravella. Tyler played well but Ravella’s powerful and consistent game was too strong and Tyler lost 1-6, 1-6. In his first backdraw match Tyler rebounded nicely with a strong win over Quincey’s Andy Tipton, 6-0, 6-0. Tyler’s third match was his best and his longest. He played a player from Moline who had beaten him in straight sets earlier in the year, Ian Golden. Tyler fought hard but came up short in the three set match, finally going down 4-6, 6-2, 2-6. Tyler was 1-2 at state and earned 2 points for U-High.
Evan Levin and Bill Steuben also played some good tennis and had one win and two losses in the State Finals. Bill and Evan handily won their first match against a team from Carbondale, 6-1, 6-1. But then they came up against a pair 9-16 seeds from Highland Park, Manci and Brint. Evan and Bill held their own against the seeded team but were eventually overpowered. After losing the first set 1-6, the U-High doubles pair picked up their game in the second, and made a brief run for a 2-0 lead. But Highland Park broke back, and despite several more breaks of serve for both teams, Highland Park eventually took the set and won the match, 6-1, 6-3.
Bill and Evan’s last match of the day featured their best tennis. They played a seesaw three setter against O’Fallon’s Fleming and Sullivan. In the first set the U-High pair were down a break with the other team serving for the set at 6-5. But they broke serve and went on a run of seven straight points to take the tiebreak 7-0 and seal the first set 7-6. The second set was an up and down affair with several more breaks of serve on both sides, but this time U-High came up on the short end when serving at 4-5. A service break cost them the set at 4-6 and the match was even. The pattern continued into the third set and Evan and Bill lost it 2-6 for a loss, 7-6, 4-6, 2-6. Bill and Evan were 1-2 at state and earned 2 points for U-High.
Girls Soccer The Maroons defeated ( Oak Lawn) Richards HS 7-0 to win their third consecutive IHSA Sectional Soccer Championship. The Maroons advance to the 2A Super Sectional match Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 in Lisle at Benedictine University. We play the winner of Lemont and Joliet Catholic.
This win propels the 18-3-1 Maroons into the Elite 8 of 133 2A Schools.

Girls Track In the Girls Track State finals, the 4 X 800 relay team ran a 10:28.88 to finish 8th in their preliminary heat. 2 freshman Alex Chang ( PR of 2:30 for her leg of the relay) and Emma Davis teamed up with 2 seniors Ethel Yang and Josey Mintel to represent the Maroons in this event.
