Lab at the Chicago Marathon
Lots of Lab School faces were in evidence at the Chicago Marathon. Eighteen students from the cross-country team, coordinated by coaches Lynne Ingalls and Chris Harper, volunteered to help; as course marshals they were in charge of keeping spectators off a mile-long stretch of the course early in the race. Junior Stephen Heinz served as spotter at the finish line, reading off numbers as runners approached so the announcer could identify them.

On Friday, October 5, Lab's Chicago Conservation Club (C3) sorted, blue-bagged, and weighed approximately 160 pounds of trash generated by the Middle School the day before. Our Middle School discarded approximately 70 pounds of wet, non-recyclable trash; 70 pounds of recyclable paper; 10 pounds of recyclable plastic; 5 pounds of glass; 4 pounds of cardboard; and 1 pound of aluminum. Parent/Teacher Conferences—Thursday, November 1

U-High Parent/Teacher Conference Day is on Thursday, November 1, 11am–8pm. A few suggestions to make the conferences with your child’s teachers as effective as possible:

  • >Before Conference Day, talk to your child about his/her classes. What is his/her perception of how each class is going?

  • > Spend time reviewing any material you received at Open House to refresh yourself on course expectations.

  • >You should have received midterm reports. These reports provide excellent information on how your son or daughter is doing at the halfway point of the quarter. Use the reports as a starting point for conversations with your child's teachers. You should also go over these reports with your child; they might be a good starting point for conversations with your child about classes as well.
