Author Daniel Pink Visits Lab Monday Evening
Author Daniel Pink will be visiting the Laboratory Schools on Monday, February 25, at 7:30 p.m. in Judd 126 to speak to the Lab community. His book, A Whole New Mind, Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future, was selected by Laboratory Schools' faculty as the book to read and discuss at the beginning of the 2007–2008 school year. For a taste of his work, see this brief You Tube presentation and read this excerpt from his book introduction.

Model UN Team Heads to Nationals
U-High’s Model United Nations (MUN) team will head off to the Nationals in New York City from March 12–15. MUN is a simulation of discussions of the issues currently on the agenda at the UN. Students research problems that are discussed in UN committees from a particular country's point of view to represent that country in the simulation. En route to Nationals, U-High has competed against all types of schools, including large public schools that have MUN classes as well as some of the best schools from Europe, Japan Korea, and Latin America.

U-High Spotlighted in Sun-Times
The U-High Maroons were recently featured in the Chicago Sun-Times as the “Spotlight School of the Week.” The article highlights Lab's current athletes and their accomplishments, and mentions some of our many famous alumni. It also includes a piece written by one of those alumni, Arne Duncan, entitled “What U-High Means to Me.”

U-High Honored Music of Alum Paul Butterfield
On Wednesday, February 13 U-Highers gathered to hear music by Paul Butterfield (a U-High graduate in 1960) played by the U-High jazz band and the musical group Mississippi Heat (led by Pierre Lacocque, ’90). Juniors Kevin Brunke and Max Wagner organized the event with help from Wayne Brasler. U-High grad and former Lower School teacher, Vickie Kamberos, ’60, who knew Paul Butterfield, spoke at the event. Here she shares her reactions and in doing so reveals some of the things that make the Lab experience so special for students and teachers alike.

ArtsFest—Thursday February 21

As you read this message your son or daughter will be participating in an annual U-High tradition called ArtsFest. Started over thirty years ago and originally planned as a week-long event dedicated to a focus on the arts, it has now become a one-day event with workshops starting in the morning and going until the end of the school day. The workshops, which are student and faculty led, range from dancing to painting to singing. The entire day would not have happened if it were not for the hard work of the students and faculty on the ArtsFest committee.

S.E.T. Productions

This week the Student Experimental Theater productions are up and running from Thursday, February 21–Saturday, February 23, at 7:30 p.m. All of the students involved in the production, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Ambrosini, have been putting in some long hours to prepare for the student shows. Tickets are still available and can be purchased in the High School lobby.
