The DePencier Society
Named for Ida DePencier, a long-time teacher and beloved friend of the Laboratory Schools, a new society recognizes alumni contributors to the Schools. Alumni making annual gifts of $1,000 or more will be recognized as members of the Ida DePencier Society in Lab’s Annual Report, and at special gatherings honoring Lab’s most generous supporters. DePencier Society Chair, Russell Elliot,’62, notes that at Lab “There were a few exceptional teachers who possessed those special qualities of being both caring dedicated teachers and equally phenomenal people. For me, my special “angel” was Mrs. Ida DePencier, a 5th grade teacher, who taught at the Lab Schools for 33 years, beginning in 1925. Upon retirement, Mrs. DePencier became a loving volunteer, collecting and cataloguing the story of the Lab Schools, eventually co-authoring a book on its formation, development and growth. By becoming a member of the DePencier Society, you will help ensure that future generations of Lab students are allowed and encouraged to develop strong ties with their teachers. Won’t you please honor that exceptional teacher or memory of Lab today? Direct a gift to the Laboratory Schools using the University of Chicago’s online giving site. |
