Our CampusLocated on the campus of the University of Chicago, the Laboratory Schools have a unique atmosphere. Our architecture reflects the impressive Gothic style that distinguishes the University, but we are comfortably at home in our student-centered buildings featuring spacious classrooms, workspaces, and libraries. A recently completed athletic complex, including extensive playing fields, has added space for sports. With support from our Parents' Association we recently renovated our High School science laboratories. Lab is very much a neighborhood school. The University area of Hyde Park is a spacious and tree-lined residential community, with small shops, bookstores, and restaurants. Just around the corner from Lab is Frank Lloyd Wright's classic Robie House. Other prominent architectural achievements in the neighborhood lend Lab's campus an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere. Inside, Lab is a mix of the best of old and new. Lower School classrooms have spacious play areas and story nooks where students feel at home. Classroom pets and small window gardens as well as student work on the walls create a truly welcoming environment conducive to learning. Middle Schoolers making the transition to multiple teachers have well-lighted rooms equipped with computers and audio/video equipment. In the High School, modern laboratories, a comprehensive library, and a fully equipped and up-to-date computer lab complement other spaces such as the Writing Center and Art Alley. Spacious interior courtyards enable students to relax and put on outdoor performances. | |
